I allowed myself to become thoroughly and irrevocably distracted today. I've long imagined incorporating a kaleidoscope in/with my images... and so today, after watching one too many Florence and the Machine music videos (the most relevant of which is the ending segment of Cosmic Love), I decided to plunge head first and give it a go. In the beginning I simply held the kaleidoscope up to obscure a portion of the frame, but as I worked my process evolved. In the end I was toting around an 18" long contraption that involved taping the kaleidoscope in such a way so that it would free-float in front of my lens (oh my poor equipment, what it endures!).
The results are in! While this isn't quite what I had in mind, it certainly is fun. Incorporating this method into a fashion spread, which is my ultimate intention, will require investing in a larger kaleidoscope and/or an array of macro filters for my lens. For now, this capricious series will keep the aspiration alive.
