How do I even begin to describe the magic of being invited into a culture so unique, so marvelous, for a celebration as special as someone's wedding? It's like having a VIP passport (if there were such a thing!) to all of its amazing traditions condensed into one singularly beautiful and elegant day.
Hints of red, the Chinese colour of good fortune, decorated even the subtlest of details throughout... from flowers in the bouquet to his socks and her nails. While she donned an impeccable Vera Wang gown in the modern classic white, her after hours party frock paid homage to the garnet tones of their homeland's customary wedding dress. And - my favourite - her shoes. LOVE. Not only were they Christian Dior, but they were coloured... she's a girl after my heart! A stunning cherry blossom archway adorned the main lounge of Manhattan's Yale Club NYC for both their ceremony and reception. A truly colossal Chinese calligraphy character (in red, of course) signifying "Double Happiness" projected above their head reception table. The Tea Ceremony, an honorary ritual displaying respect to their elders, brought tears to most everyone in the room. In another venerating tradition, the newlyweds and their immediate family circled the reception toasting each and every guest in attendance. And one of my favourite surprises - the live musical performances! With traditional Chinese instruments set to modern music, the Er-hu and Pipa (Eastern variations of the fiddle & lute) never looked or sounded so chic!
