Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion Wedding Photographer | Kristie + Dave

Kristie & Dave are the sort of fun-loving couple whose laughter and love (10 years in the making) are nothing short of contagious. So when it came to their wedding, they needed a venue as unique and special as they are. Enter Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion in Canandaigua, upstate New York - a nod to the region where both Kristie grew up and together her & Dave purchased their first home. Maximizing the beautiful grounds established circa the 1880's, the wedding day carried us through many of the now historic state park's highlights with a ceremony in the Rock Garden, cocktails in the Japanese Garden, and portraits carrying us through both and beyond, to the Italian Garden & Mansion as well.

As to be expected, the day was nothing short of a modern, ultra-classy yet somehow extraordinarily relaxed celebration featuring a charming outdoor ceremony filled with so much joy - both between Kristie and Dave themselves and amongst the intimate group of guests gathered around them. With details as effortlessly on-point as the the day itself, colours of grey and blue (a pantone after my own heart) subtly tied into the sapphire detailing on Kristie's engagement ring. And a new personal favourite: Mokume Gane wedding rings, a 500 year old wood-grain inspired technique traditionally used to make Japanese sword sheathes. With just a small handful of metal smiths now specializing in the art, both bands were forged from the same billet of metal - making a pairing as uniquely connected as the couple themselves.

And yet above all else, it was the small moments throughout that breathed life into the day: Kristie & her bridesmaids circling to reference photos for practice bustling the dress, a heartfelt ceremony officiated by a close friend, Kristie pausing to pin the boutonniere on her groom during a quiet moment, fleeting glances at the new wedding bands on their fingers, stolen kisses, simultaneous hugs during joint parent dances... and a playfulness so endearing there was rarely a straight face or dry eye the whole day through.

If you can't quite get enough of Kristie & Dave's love, be sure to check out their Brooklyn Bridge Park engagement photos.
